Justice O.A. Popoola of the Lagos State High Court for Ikeja, yesterday, say dem don release one 44-year-old man, Mr. Wasiu Ajumoje, wey dem bin dey try for alleged murder for the past 17 years.
Dem first carry Ajumoje go court for March 2008, and since then, he don dey inside Ikoyi Correctional Centre. The case take long well well because the government lawyers no dey push the case forward.
When dem come court again yesterday for the judge to hear if the man get case to answer, the Lagos State Prosecution Counsel, T.E. Onilado, tell the court say the Attorney-General of Lagos State office don look into the matter again and decide say dem no go continue the case.
Onilado bring one paper wey date am April 16, 2025, and the Director of Public Prosecution, Dr. Babajide Martins, sign am.
Part of the paper say: "I hereby, on behalf of the Hon Attorney-General of Lagos State, stop this charge completely against Wasiu Ajumoje based on the power wey the Attorney-General get under Section 211(1)(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended)."
The judge then cancel the charge. Justice Popoola rule say, "The charge don cancel, the accused person dey free but dem no say he no do am at all."
After the ruling, Ajumoje talk about his bad experience, say dem arrest am on March 13, 2008, after two of his neighbors fight dirty for Adeniji, Lagos Island.
He say he try to stop the fight between two friends when one of them, wey dem call Rasheed, stab the other one die and run away.
