The Federal High Court for Abuja say dem go continue to hear the case wey one Nigerian man, Chianugo Peter, carry go court against Google and GoDaddy on May 27. The man dey want compensation of $150 million because he say dem break contract with him.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu fix the date for the lawyers of Google and GoDaddy to ask Peter questions after his own lawyer, Emmanuel Ekpenyong, present his evidence to the court through video call. The case na FHC/ABJ/CS/238/2023.
Remember say the case dey about how dem take shut down Mr Peter website name, YouTubeAudio.com, after he don use eight years promote and market am.
Peter, through his lawyer, put GoDaddy.Com LLC and Google LLC as the first and second people wey he carry go court on April 14, 2023.
Inside the paper wey Ekpenyong from Fred-Young & Evans LP law firm file for the court, the Nigerian man dey want $150 million from Google and GoDaddy for the way dem take break their agreement for internet business.
The man say the two companies shut down his website and business name, YouTubeAudio.com, and give the right to the name to Google.
Even though GoDaddy.com LLC no send anybody to court or file any paper, Google LLC, the big American tech company, through their lawyer, Mark Mordi (SAN) from Aluko & Oyebode law firm, tell the court say Peter case no strong and dem no see any reason why dem suppose to win.
Remember say for April 2024, Justice Egwuatu allow Peter to change some things in his court papers after his lawyer ask for permission and the lawyers for Google no object.
Inside the new paper wey Peter lawyer file on April 29, 2024, Peter dey ask for ten things.
Some of the things he dey ask for na for the court to say that since GoDaddy register YouTubeAudio.com for him in 2015, and he register am as business name with number BN 2395035 with CAC in 2016, and Trademark office accept am, and Google AdSense and PlayStore approve am in 2021 without saying it dey look like YouTube own name, then Peter get all the right to YouTubeAudio.com.
He want the court to say he suppose to get money from Google and GoDaddy for the loss of his YouTubeAudio.com brand and the good name wey the brand and website don get for eight years of promotion from July 2, 2015 to December 7, 2022.
He dey ask the court to order Google and GoDaddy to pay him $50 million for the work he do to promote and market the YouTube Audio business name and YouTube Audio.com website for eight years.
He still dey ask for $100 million for the money he expect to make from the good name and brand of YouTube Audio and YouTube Audio.com.
